The Softwings are a sect of pastel-hued dragons that hail from the Gentle Gardens, an isolated valley on the northern border of the Sunbeam Ruins. The intensity of the light of the Ruins, combined with the airborne fertilizing spores from the Viridian Labyrinth, creates a comfortable environment for the local Juneflower to flourish.
The Softwings' colorations mimic the type of Juneflower they often work with. These dragons are natural horticulturalists and hold a special connection to the Juneflower, as it was almost extinguished from Sorneith. A greedy reaction to its discovery sapped its potent pigments and inert magical properties until the Softwings learned of its misuse and intervened.

Occasionally, when the Juneflower is not exposed to the sunlight, either stored away in darkness or exposed to moonlight, the flower breeds variants with cooler tones. It's not quite clear why the flower changes so, but it's speculated that it's a survival mechanism, storing the warm energies in its stem to use for later.
Juneflowers that have fully cool palettes thrive under night conditions, and dragons have incorporated it into bedtime rituals and romantic nightly strolls. Dreamhide variant dragons believe this Juneflower provides luck for nocturnal travels.

lore
There is a tale often revealed to hatchlings at bedtime that speaks of a sect of pastel-hued dragons with banded wings. As the tale goes, an ambitious youth left his clan to discover the secrets behind a little-documented location in the Sunbeam Ruins called the Gentle Gardens. The youth got lost a few times in his quest, but when he was on the brink of despair, he awoke from his rest to the most wondrous aroma he ever experienced. Following his snout and a keen sense of curiosity, he found a series of tunnels home to a curious two-toned flower that was lavender and lilac. The tunnels led to a large, unfamiliar valley where the blistering sun overhead radiated down on the banded flowers, now displaying an array of oranges and pinks.
Dragons flew merrily around the valley, looking identical to the flowers as they appeared in the warm sun and cool caverns. The beautiful pastel colorations of the dragons filled the youth with joy as he flew home to tell the clan of his discovery. He dubbed the dragons “Softwings”.
News of this magical flower and its caretakers traveled like summer wildfire. The Softwing dragons met new explorers in the Gentle Gardens and were delighted to give their sacred Juneflowers away in return for silky apparel and comfortable trinkets. At first, clans all around marveled at the inert properties of the Juneflower and its many uses. As the Juneflower was incorporated into warpaints, poisons and salves, apparel, edible delicacies, decorations, and ritualistic pieces, its demand grew out of hand. The Gentle Gardens were raided, and the Softwings found themselves without their favorite flower.
[item=Juneflower]
They watched in horror as the rampant use of the Juneflower took its toll on the plant. Its pigment faded, and its inert magical properties weakened, only increasing the desire for more. In a desperate attempt to prevent the flower's extinction, the Softwings broke their rigid vow of nonviolence to exert a powerful sleeping spell over known clans who cultivated the Juneflower. The Softwings unearthed most of the sickly crops and took them back to the Gardens for preservation.
The Juneflowers left behind died off. Many folks believed it had indeed gone extinct.
After many troubled months within the Gentle Gardens, the Softwings finally emerged to the world with a proposal. The Juneflower population had recovered enough to be released into the world again. But the Softwings had special knowledge about the flower and suggested one of their kind accompany a Juneflower shipment permanently to the clan that purchased it.
Now, the Softwings desire to travel to all the corners of Sorneith to increase other's awareness and appreciation of their favorite banded flower.
personality
The Softwings are shy, peace-loving folks who take great pride in cultivating gardens, particularly those dedicated to Juneflowers. Softwings are fascinated with Juneflowers, and while unsure which came first, the flower or the dragon, they will gladly share their knowledge of herbology with anyone.
Softwings are very trusting once a stranger is deemed worthy of friendship. Their generosity is quite charming, even grossly inconvenient for the casual dragon that catches a Softwing’s interest.
Softwings make great gardeners, but some have taken a penchant to extracting poisons, making dyes, and acting as entertainers for passing clans. They are not nomadic by nature, and would rather stay nearby to a Juneflower population.
diet
Softwings have small appetites, but can be ground grazing day and night on nuts, plants, and insects. Caterpillars and ants, the natural predator of the Juneflower are devoured. While some treat the Juneflower as a holy relic, others use the plant in poulstices, face balms, and cooking ingredients, among other uses.
combat
Softwings flee from combat at any capable opportunity. Some of the more brazen folk may lob a dye-filled plant sac as a distraction, but the Softwings’ wholehearted disinterest in violence incites their desire for self preservation. They will happily let another dragon do the dirty work, however, often peddling poisons and war paint as needed.

Part of preserving a particular flora population means treating the local environment with respect. As a result, many Softwings have chosen to only eat lesser creatures and fruits of the earth. While the dragons can eat fish and meat, they usually restrict themselves to a diet accessible by foraging. Insects are also acceptable morsels due to infestations sapping a cultivated patch of its nutrients. Juneflowers are a delicacy for those who choose to harvest them.
