[center][i]On a wild grouse hunt for fabled buried treasure, you've been walking for weeks. Days. Hours,
maybe. Time has no meaning when you are stranded alone in the Shifting Expanse.
There is nothing but cracked desert framed by thunderheads as far as the eye can see. You are afraid to fly in these forboding skies, so you cannot gain your bearings. Then, lightning splits the gloom right above you. You are blinded, and before your sight returns, you hear the sands shift around you, and an enormous presence looms ahead.
A giant dragon slowly comes into view.

He is dressed in the garb of a pirate, with a sword hanging from his waist and his face so deeply shadowed that you can't make out an expression. He speaks to you, his voice like rolling thunder, but you are so nervous that you only catch the word [/i]hatchlings[i]. Out of the corner of your eye, more huge shapes materialize, seemingly out of the sand itself. With a jolt you realize you are surrounded by a band of pirates. You muster out a squeak of distress and pleading. The pirates roar with laughter, and one of them pushes you from behind. Packing around you tightly to shelter you from the wind, they herd you to an inconspicuous hole in the ground. You enter cautiously, as you feel you have no other choice. Through the hole is a spacious, colorful cavern, lined with technology and wiring, and strange devices that beep and blink. Rusted weapons, cracked eggshells, and piles of fishy-smelling boxes are stacked against the wall. The pirates follow in behind you, chattering amongst themselves. The leader, with the sword, struts ahead and barks an order. At his call, a smattering of baby ridgebacks tumble into the room, wailing and snapping at one another playfully. Several of the pirates nudge them into line, and they finally sit still, watching the newcomer expectantly. The leader explains to you that this is the resident hatchery of the Vrangr clan, locally known as the Pirate's Den. He goes on to gloat about the babies and point out which ones he thought you should buy.
Feeling overwhelmed, you sit back and watch the hatchlings play for a bit. Maybe taking a little lightning gremlin home with you wouldn't be so bad.
