Hello, and welcome!

This is a growing project whose aim is to produce Phoenix Skydancers, Coatls, and Wildclaws!

Perfect for Flameforger's Festival, or just to have a lovely Fire-flight ambassador, these beauties will find themselves at home in any lair!

My goal is to capture a more natural lava look with the use of genes, rather than skins or accents. To this end, I have found Blood Speckle with Sunshine Crackle does the best job of portraying this look. Secondaries will vary by variety (see post 3 for more details).

How to Order:

1. Check out my pairs below. Note that outcomes and prices will vary by each pair.
2. Please ping me, indicating which pair(s) you would like to be added to my pinglist for.
3. If interested in a particular gender, please indicate that also.
4. Will accept reservations, only with pre-payment.
5. When I ping you about new hatchlings, I will be selling in order by first to send CR or ping me back.
6. If you wish to be taken off a pinglist, please ping or PM me.
7. By signing up for any pinglist, you also agree to be pinged for new pairings

They were created primarily to serve as emissaries and messengers for the Flamecaller, able travel far from their homes without tiring or losing the magicks that sustained their bodies. Highly intelligent, incredibly resilient, and eternally self-sustaining, they represented the ideal flame. They live their lives in cycles, which can vary in length from a few dozen years to a few centuries, depending on how close they live to the Ashfall Waste; the source of their life is stronger the closer they are to the source of that magick that sustains it. Anatomy: Their bodies were originally created from molten lava, hardening to form a shifting, crackling skin from which grew many heat-resistant feathers and expansive wings. The lava sustains them from birth, serving as both their life force and their internal workings. This life force slowly hardens from outside inward during the course of their life cycles, making them slower and less vigorous as they age. At the end of their cycle, their bodies and wings turn to ash, with the exception of a small, glowing, ovoid core that slowly forms into the new Phoenix chick. Through the process of rebirth, their wings, being furthest from their body and thus the most malleable, can go through changes depending on their natural environment. This formative vulnerability is what has caused most of the variety that is present among different Phoenixes today. Diet: Phoenixes do not actually need food, but it does provide fuel for their inner flames, which helps sustain their bodies for longer cycles. As a supplement to their diets, some will even take take to eating small rocks, basalt chips, and even bits of scrap metal; however, their favorite snacks are chunks of old wood and other combustibles, for the interesting effects they create during “digestion” (integration). Since Phoenixes’ appearances are largely the product of their environments, the seeming segregation between different Phoenix varieties has much more to do with their locale than their appearances. As a ritual of respect, many groups will gather together in the Ashfall Wastes to observe the rebirth of one or more of their own. Though most memories are retained during the process, the reborn Phoenix is treated as a new life, and past friendships are started anew; it is widely recognized as a ritual of cleansing. Seemingly contrary to this, mates will usually try their best to synchronize their life cycles, to stay close even into their next lives. Those that choose to take mates and reproduce do so at the cost of their lifespans. When mates combine their life forces, they can create new Phoenixes by sacrificing their own inner sustenance; this effectively shortens the length of their current life cycle, but does not affect the length of future cycles. There are those who believe these Phoenix brethren are the original "mold" or first iteration of the Phoenix before the Flamecaller refined her creation; others believe that they were Royal Phoenixes who lost their way home, and were reborn too close to the sea, causing their newly forming wings to cool too quickly and take on the texture of hardened rock. When questioned, the Flamecaller simply reiterates that all her children are precious to her, and it does not matter why they look the way they do. Lava phoenixes are incapable of flight, as their wings are composed of the same substance as their bodies, thus too heavy for flight; However, they can glide on warm air updrafts for short distances. Breed: Skydancer Primary: Blood Speckle Secondary: Crimson/Blood/Maroon Freckle Tert: Sunshine Crackle Eyes: Fire only Basaltic Phoenixes The iron-rich lava near the Stormbringer's domain is responsible for the strange hexagonal patterns found in these Phoenixes. The cooling process during their formation is much slower, and results in more plate-like body structures; consequently, they tend to nest in large flocks to ensure the greatest rate of survival for all, as parents of this variety need to stay close to their offspring for much longer than normal. During the 1st and 2nd ages, these phoenixes would have been incredibly rare, and found living in isolated caves near larger basalt formations, leading to many a myth and legend about the dragons that inhabited those "sacred" places. Lately, with no real predators to hunt or harm them, they have boomed in population, expanding their nesting grounds to nearly the entire southern coasts and eastern border of the Ashfall. Interbreeding has introduced their unique physiology to many of the other varieties of Phoenixes as well. Since their bodies cool less rapidly than others, this gives them a distinct advantage in water: the smooth, flat surface of their wings actually allows them to swim for short periods of time. When other sources of fuel are scarce, particularly during nesting season, many who live on the coasts will seek out the aquatic life for sustenance. It is a common sight to see a great number of these phoenixes along the rocky coasts with their wings outstretched to dry them. Those who live closer to the Stormbringer's domain, instead, have become magnetic in nature, and can ride the charged air currents to glide or sometimes even levitate for long distances. These Phoenixes have no trouble finding fuel sources, as they have an internal compass that helps them find the metal deposits that are their favorite diet. They live deep within the earth, almost to the mantle itself, where they have formed a small but complex society, including their own forms of communication. Though their brethren cannot understand them, they welcome the infrequent visits, as the Moltenwings are always cheerful and friendly. Due to the intense heat and pressure of the mantle, Moltenwing Phoenixes' wings take on a diamond-like quality that protects them, and allows the Phoenixes to propel themselves through the molten magma. Breed: Skydancer Primary: Blood Speckle/Giraffe Secondary: Gold/Sunshine/Orange/Fire Facet Tert: Sunshine Crackle Eyes: Fire only Ashenwing Phoenixes This Phoenix variety's "ashen" wings are the result of their exodus into the Windsinger's domain during the 2nd Age to escape predation by the ancient civilizations. Living and hunting almost exclusively high in the air, they were safe from harm; returning to their volcanic homes only to bathe in the volcanic ash. Many of them have since returned to the Ashfall at the turning of the 3rd Age, preferring the warm air currents to the sometimes violent winds of the Plateau. They communicate to one another fairly loudly in the air, and can be heard often well before they are seen. Their wings are feathery in texture, but they are quite brittle and prone to breaking; for this reason, they tend to avoid the lava pools their brethren usually frequent. They are completely capable of flight, and travel in small flocks. While the magicks that create and sustain them are no different than the other Phoenix varieties, the oldest Phoenixes seem to believe it evidence of the change in the world after the end of the 2nd Age. These new Phoenixes often find themselves drawn to the habitats of the Royals, Lavas, or even the Ashenwings, making themselves blissfully at home nearly anywhere in the Ashfall. Their wings are neat and feathery in texture, but do not hold the same shimmer as the Royal Phoenixes'. They are capable of flight, but prefer to simply glide on the warm air currents where they are most common. Breed: Skydancer Primary: Blood Speckle/Giraffe Secondary: Sunshine/Orange/Fire, Tomato/Crimson/Blood/Maroon Seraph; OR Crimson/Blood/Maroon Peregrine Tert: Sunshine Crackle Eyes: Fire only Aztec Phoenixes These were born in the Third Age, after the Flamecaller discovered the remains of stone statues left behind by an ancient 2nd Age civilization that lived in the regions surrounding the Ashfall. These primitive peoples worshipped the volcanoes themselves, believing them to be gods, and created many stone effigies in the image of their gods. Impressed by their leavings, the Flamecaller breathed life into these effigies to create a new breed of Phoenix known as the Aztec Phoenixes. While their bodies are molten like other Phoenixes, their wings take on the texture of marble (Shimmer), granite (Freckle), or sandstone (Peregrine), and thus are useless for flight. Breed: Coatl Primary: Blood Speckle/Giraffe Secondary: Sunshine/Orange/Fire/Tangerine, Crimson/Blood/Maroon/Red Shimmer; OR Beige/Stone/Slate, Crimson/Blood/Maroon/Red/Carmine Freckle; OR Tomato/Crimson/Blood/Maroon/Red/Carmine Peregrine Tert: Sunshine Crackle Eyes: Fire only Wildwood Phoenixes This genetic offshoot of the Phoenix all originate from a curious group of Phoenixes that left their volcanic homes early in the 2nd Age in search of different food and climates, and instead discovered a whole new purpose. After stumbling upon new growth poking up amongst the ash and burnt out husks of trees left by a major eruption, they came to the idea that they should bring that same new life to all the forests and jungles and woods of Sornieth. To that end, they spread far and wide, inhabiting every wooded area they could find, to serve as physical embodiments of the cycle of death and rebirth there. To avoid hunting by the civilizations of the 2nd Age, they took to living deep within caves and cliff faces, emerging only briefly each day to warm their bodies in the sun, and at the end of their cycles to find the warmest place in the wood to die and be reborn. It is believed that almost all wildfires are sparked by the rebirth of a Wildwood Phoenix, signaling the culling of the old and the birth of the new. Eras in wooded areas can almost be counted by the lifespan of its guardian Phoenix(es). Many centuries of living in caves have adapted the Wildwood Phoenix's biology to better suit their environment. Their wings are useless, and take on the texture of either limestone (Shimmer), granite (Freckle), or quartz (Facet), reflecting the natural formations in the caves in which they live. Many of the naturally occurring tunnels and paths within these caves were formed over years and years of Phoenixes shaping and boring the rock with their molten bodies to form their own little living networks. Phoenix

Phoenixes were one of the Flamecaller's first creations during the 1st Age, created to embody both the destructive and the creative properties of fire, and serve as a symbol of rebirth.

Anatomy:
Their bodies were originally created from molten lava, hardening to form a shifting, crackling skin from which grew many heat-resistant feathers and expansive wings.

Diet:
Phoenixes do not actually need food, but it does provide fuel for their inner flames, which helps sustain their bodies for longer cycles. Primarily, they hunt meat (birds, reptiles, and small mammals) or insects, but seem to take more enjoyment from the sport of hunting than the act of eating them. As a supplement to their diets, some will even take take to eating small rocks, basalt chips, and even bits of scrap metal; however, their favorite snacks are chunks of old wood and other combustibles, for the interesting effects they create during “digestion” (integration).

Society:
Most Phoenixes live in small, isolated, communal groups or flocks that are very close-knit; though Phoenixes tend to form the closest, most long-lasting bonds of friendship within their own small communities, they are very welcome to integration of new members.
The newborn Phoenixes inherit only their parents appearances, and, for all intents and purposes, are treated no differently than newly reborn Phoenixes. Parents only stay with their newborns until they have finished formation, and then treat them as new members of the community rather than as children.

Combat:
Phoenixes have very few natural defenses, other than flight and their natural molten composition. It is for this reason many took to hiding rather than face being hunted during the 2nd age for their mythical properties. When threatened, they will often choose to run rather than fight.

Common Phoenixes

mvi66Zg.pngxOAfLsg.png

All new Phoenixes created by the Flamecaller since the 3rd Age take on this appearance.

Breed: Skydancer
Primary: Blood Speckle/Giraffe
Secondary: Sunshine/Orange/Fire, Tomato/Crimson/Blood/Maroon Seraph;
OR Crimson/Blood/Maroon Peregrine

Tert: Sunshine Crackle

Aztec Phoenixes

vBnB2Ud.pngA5Bjzmy.png

These were born in the Third Age, after the Flamecaller discovered the remains of stone statues left behind by an ancient 2nd Age civilization that lived in the regions surrounding the Ashfall.

Breed: Coatl
Primary: Blood Speckle/Giraffe
Secondary: Sunshine/Orange/Fire/Tangerine, Crimson/Blood/Maroon/Red Shimmer;
OR Beige/Stone/Slate, Crimson/Blood/Maroon/Red/Carmine Freckle;
OR Tomato/Crimson/Blood/Maroon/Red/Carmine Peregrine

Wildwood Phoenixes

L1Hn3lQ.pngrRptqVb.png

This genetic offshoot of the Phoenix all originate from a curious group of Phoenixes that left their volcanic homes early in the 2nd Age in search of different food and climates, and instead discovered a whole new purpose.
