Uh-oh, looks like this descendant of the Sea has wandered a little too far from her home lair (Jaspernoir, #363800), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, s/he'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful! Travel Log~ Three eggs were kept warm by their mother, and hatched full of magic on Christmas Eve. The middle dragonling was January; and she was immediately different from her sisters. Her father had the gift of seeing ghosts, and perhaps January had inherited something like that. The Ghost of Christmas Present come-to-life, she seems omnipotent, knowing what is going on anywhere at any given moment. But unlike her sisters, she cannot see into the past nor the future. Only what is important right now holds meaning to January. All she carries with her is a scabbard with no sword in it, a representation of peace on Sornieth and good will toward all dragons. Monde Crossing: January arrived at a village, where she visited a statue of a dragon. It turned out the dragon willingly became a statue, and that was why she couldn’t find their ghost in the town, despite their name being at the statue’s base. She decided to continue her journey after a few days and nights passed. Before she left, however, she was gifted three pieces of spinel jewelry to remember her stay in Monde Crossing. Clan Daberath: She met BeretLights and knew that on the moment, there was nothing more important than him. Other dragons might have described this as just a crush, or a love affair, but January felt neither of those things. She knew, just knew, that on the moment, she needed to stay with him. They nested, and three little ones came to the world. From that point, they became the focus of her life, they were what was important. She raised them to be good dragons, caring souls, generous hearts, and she taught them to enjoy the moment. And when the time came that they had grown wings wide enough to carry them into adulthood, she knew (despite the pain in her chest) that she must let them go. Afterwards, she stayed with her mate, not because he needed it, but because she did. Letting the little ones go had caused a wound, and she never imagined it could hurt so much to do something she knew was necessary. Only once the seasons turned around, did she start to feel the urge to move again - she was needed elsewhere. She needed to fly... west, perhaps? Snail's Trail: At this point in January's travels, she began reflecting on her life she's had so far. She was young, new, saw the world as beautiful as it was in the present. Then she grew, and saw that the world's present was crooked, vile, unfair. Hatchlings, as young as 1 minute old are exalted for a few coins, parents and children lost without even being given a name, dragons abandoned simply for their genes or color. It drove her to a deep depression. Then, she had found love in Clan Daberath. All her frustration with the world seemed to have vanished, and she even bore children. But... all good things must come to an end. She had to leave, and both had moved on with their lives, met new people, and nearly forgotten each other completely. January... is once again feeling lost. She is now 3 years old, what some would consider to be an oldie dragon. She shouldn't feel this way, but... she finds herself feeling like she was useless, of no value. She had wandered long and far, and yet found no place she truly belonged. She was aside herself with sadness, feelings of regret and hopelessness. The trail January was traveling gradually began to change; foliage grew larger, flowers more commonplace, bugs more... dragon-like? What a strange place she has arrived in... Here, at the end of the path, she meets two very small Obelisks (Even smaller than her!), Snail, and Trail. What an curious place, where insects and dragons are the same size, even seeing each other as friends. As the three got to know each other, January shared her story, her grief. The Obelisk pair didn't show her pity or judgement, but rather understanding. They quickly came to trust her, ushering her forth to meet the rest of the clan. A large group of outcasts who don't belong anywhere else. Why, there was a Skydancer who couldn't fly, a Guardian who never found anything to protect, a Pearlcatcher seemingly living without a pearl, a collection of dragons much older than January, and many many dragons who simply did not know how to properly interact with others. Here is a place where those who have been scarred by others can live in peace and without fear. January came to realize that her worth was not determined by her birth, color, genetics, offspring, or any other parameter set by any god. Her value is inherent, and is made unique by her stories. Every dragon has stories, although not all get to tell them. She realizes she is quite fortunate to be able to share her travels all across Sornieth. Worry not about the past, or even the future. Life, right now in the present, is beautiful. Although her time at Snail's Trail was eye-opening, freeing, fantastical... she knew her true love was wandering. Snail and Trail are sad to see her off, but understand. They send her off with teary eyes as she flies off to see more of the world. Bookwyrm Clan: After leaving Snail's Trail, following a long and winding riverbed, January eventually found her way into a library in the middle of a bamboo forest. The library was warm and welcoming, full of friendly dragons and hefty books. The matriarch, Myrna, welcomed her and bade her to stay as long as she wished to. Initially she stayed for the cozy fire and reading material, but stayed longer and longer as she noticed the vast number of ghosts roaming the premises. What had happened here for so many spirits to be.. stuck between the realm of the living and that of the dead? And even more unusual was when she met two other dragons who could see these ghosts, just like her! In all her years of travels such a skill seemed rare and far between! The two, named Spiritrise and Cindersong, eagerly chatted with her about her own experiences with ghosts (although the two seemed to dislike each other strongly) and in exchange, tutored her in the ways of magic. The pair gifted her a scrying crystal and a cane to help her practice new spells. January was so excited to be learning new skills amongst her new friends! But of course over time, she felt that itch to wander again and after being gifted some magician's jewelry (Spiritrise says you can never have too many bangles) left to explore more of Sornieth.
