UafqsPD.png Willowshade was never meant for the bloodshed and pain that stalked her early life.
She was the last surviving hatchling of Aura and Legacy, the founders of the Clan of Lost Knowledge. Her brothers and sisters had all perished or been sent to serve the deities, so Willow was meant to inherit the throne once her parents had died.
But Willow was born in dark times. Although she always believed the best in other dragons, her mother Aura knew some dragons could be cruel. Aura wanted to keep Willow as far away from the real world as possible until it was time for her to lead the clan. Aura never let Willow out of her sight, watching and protecting her constantly. But Willow soon grew bored of being stuck with her mother. Willow never got to leave the clan's lair alone, even though most dragons half her age were allowed outside for short durations. Willow was not yet fully grown, but she knew she deserved more. So she sneaked away from the clan in the middle of the night, exploring their territories on her own. She enjoyed her explorations at first. The outside world was beautiful- why had her mother kept her from it? She wanted to explore every inch of it, to run through the forests and fly through the endless blue skies.
Until rogue dragons found Willow alone, defenceless. The dragons belonged to a band of rogues known as the Howling Storm, who had risen up against the clan. The rogues were going to slaughter Willow right then and there, until they recognized Willow as Aura and Legacy's daughter. If they killed her, Aura would merely hatch another heir. They had to do something to ensure Aura would give up, to make sure she'd never have another heir for fear of what would happen to them.
So the rogues dragged Willow back to their camp and imprisoned her. The rogues tormented Willow, breaking her legs and twisting her wings, taunting her about her crippled state. The rogue dragons kept Willow chained at all times, unable to move her legs or wings. Due to her inability to move and adjust into a comfortable position, Willow's legs and wings never healed properly, leaving her permanently twisted and crippled. Although Aura was eventually able to rescue Willow, they both knew Willow could never rule the clan. The clan's healers tried to mend Willow's legs and wings, but it was already too late. Her broken bones had healed, but they had healed at awkward, twisted angles. How could Willow ever lead the clan now? What use was a leader who could barely walk or fly? How could a crippled dragon lead their clan into battle?
