He was an old dragon. Old enough that there were days when his bones creaked and it took him a few extra minutes to get moving in the mornings, but he hadn't lost his fighting spirit, just a lot of his memories. He knew that both of his parents were still alive and well, but he didn't know how to find them anymore. In fact, he couldn't really remember how he had come to be a part of the clan of tears. He thought it seemed like a nice enough family for him to settle with, however. At least for a time.
He settled down on the warm earth to watch the young dragons racing around as if their feet were on fire. He didn't understand what their rush was, but he found it strangely entertaining to watch them interact with each other. They all had their little quirks, but they were a family, and their loyalty to one another shone through. It may not have been obvious to those outside of the clan, but he was sure that if there was ever a day when one of them were threatened, it would become quickly apparent as the entire pack rushed to the aid of the one.
He still wasn't sure what the hyenas had to do with anything. They just seemed to be always present, mulling about the feet of the many raptors that called the tavern home.
Hyde dragged one sharp claw against the earth, tracing the names of the clan members into the soil, and brushing them away again only to retrace them. Maybe if he copied each of their names down enough times he would be able to remember them always. He didn't mind forgetting some things, but these dragons, this family, was one that he wanted to carry in his heart until the end of days.
