Magic that has helped shape lives

Pearl was born to a stunning pair of pearlescent dragons who were very much in love, head over heals for each other. So much so that when her father fell sick then sadly passed away, her mother followed suit very quickly, heartbreak.

This meant that Pearl was left alone as a hatchling, wandering around the ice fields. She got colder and colder as she wandered, not being used to the intense freezing temperatures of the frigid floes. So cold, her wings frosted at the tips, Pearl gave up and sit down, trying to keep warm amongst the drifts of snow and ice. The frost crept down her wings, and formed on her arms, legs and tail. It stole into her heart, seizing it, freezing her completely.

Pearl's frozen form slipped from the cracking iceberg, sinking into the depths of the icy water. The deep current beneath the waves pushed and pulled Pearl's body until a small but strong hand griped her frozen one. A maren defender had seen the hatchling fall beneath the surface while on one of her early morning patrols and couldn't bare to see such a young innocent life die. She gripped the frozen dragon with all her might, trying her best to swim to the surface.

The ocean currents are quite strong the deeper you go, so at the depth Pearl had sunk to meant that by the time the mermaid had found her, the young hatchling was far from where she started in the snowy south. When they both surfaced, they were faced with thick greenery of the Worldedge Wetlands. The maren defender's energy was waning, the dragon in her clutch was far to heavy to drag out of the water but as they started to sink again, a large guardian picked them both up.

That guardian was our clan's healer/traveler's aid Galio Tarnish, and he was used to pulling lost travelers from bad situations and nurturing them back to health. The mermaid familiar took just a day of rest to bring her back to her feisty self but he knew Pearl would take much much longer. The ice had made its home in her heart and no matter what Galio tried, the ice shards would reform on her wings and she wouldn't wake.

Galio decided they needed extra help so he gathered up Pearl and the familiar that hadn't left her side, and took them to see the potion maker Ebony Midnight in hope that they would have a cure. Ebony studied Pearl's frost tipped wings and came to the conclusion that they couldn't completely cure her but they could stop the ice from killing the hatchling and allow her to live a mostly normal life.

So Ebony spent a few sleepless nights gathering winterbelle -a frost surviving flower- and slow brewing a large batch of a cold protection potion while Galio monitored the unconscious Pearl by a supernaturally heated fire of blue flame. The potion was a pearlescent blue, swirling with glints of pink and white and was tipped down the young dragon's throat, coating her insides from the cold. With the help of the heat from the blue fire, Pearl roused and everything bar her extremities thawed.

Slowly Pearl recovered enough to settle in as a part of this clan, still dealing the frost that threatened to overcome her. She keeps it at bay by weekly potions from Ebony as well as a Stardust Sap Lamp that houses a part of the blue flame fire. As Pearl grows up, she finds a kinship with magic and its forces, she believes that it is because the freezing and defrosting of her bones by supernatural forces.

Because of the rocky start she had to life and the warm welcome from her forever clan, she vowed to dedicate herself to helping others in need of magical help. She does so with her maren defender by her side, which the familiar never left after finding Pearl. The two set up a home in the township with a deep blue-fire pit in the center, an essential part of her spells, which heats the house to a toasty warm temperature.

The ice still bothers her occasionally but it also reminds her of what she could have lost and what she found instead.
