Fiercegaze

-The Flyer

Fiercegaze was zipping through the treetops with Gradient, the Webwing Alpha she befriended, when she remembered her past. This wasn't new, having no memory of her childhood. She would get flashbacks that only briefly lingered, or a feeling that she was sure she knew. This time, it was heat under her wings. A scorched land of fire. And flying. That feeling she knew so well, of freedom, and joy, with the wind rushing past your face, words of exitement lost in the fray. That feeling returned, with the heat from the memory. Then, the full picture came into view.

She was young, just barely old enough to venture beyond the nest. There was a heat vent not too far away, and she was curious. She stumbled over the rocks and pebbles, flapping her wings to stay balanced. When she got to the heat vent, the rising air flowed under her wings, empowering little Fiercegaze with a confidence unmatched by any dragon. She knew she was meant to fly, and jumped.

The memory faded, leaving her in the cool, tranquil morning of her new home. Gradient chirped, then looped over her, challenging her to race him. Fiercegaze accepted. After all, she was born to be the flyer.
