He rode in through the thick mist, his steed blowing the fog away in billows, noisily, through its enormous wet quivering nostrils. It stopped, dropped its head to the pungent earth, and shook its matted mane, twitched its ears.

The rider appeared to look up and around him, deliberate and unhurried. His grey silhouette loomed in the mist, the sharp peaks of his helmeted head puncturing the white veil swirling around him. His breath was labored and hollow through the barbute.

Tree branches, shuddering in the slight breeze, rained red and yellow leaves on the damp soil beneath them. The knight began to sing a beautiful song, and the boughs twisted and broke.
