As the sun sets on Sornieth, and the Viridian Labyrinth fades to purple-black, dragons flying overhead notice something. There — where the mighty trees give way to the roiling surf — are a few moving lights scattered among the sand.

At first they might think they’re fireflies, or when they’re in the ocean, banks of shining plankton.
But it’s the dragons themselves. At night, each of those dragons’ souls begins to glow inside their bodies, like a captured star residing in each breast.

The hatchlings don’t question it. They use their soul-light to chase each other around in the dark, laughing like hatchlings do. The spirit-dancers use the light to form patterns, revolving wheels during their dancing dervishes. And the clan botanists dissect particularly tasty leaves by the light of their own souls.

But TigerEye stands on a small hillock overlooking her clan. They have mostly forgotten. But as leader and lorekeeper, she knows, has written, and remembers what chased her clan out of the starlit reaches of their former mountain home.

She writes in the light of her own amber glow, The Ravagers are creatures so void-black that they eye can’t perceive their shape. We only knew they were on us when our clan-mates were split open by shadows, and we caught a glimpse of their soul-light vanishing down a midnight-colored gullet.

Then she looks up from her writing, watching the capering hatchlings and chanting priestesses, listening to the salty waves break. Feeling the ancient canopies rustling overhead on seaborne breeze.

She prays the peace holds.

If you're ever interested in selling 87112346 (salamence) in your fodder tab let me know. he happens to be a son of my friend's progen and i think it would be really funny to own him without telling them as some kind of surprise.
