There's a raggedy, crystalline palace, sitting next to the Tempest Spire, looking as if it doesn't belong. It's old and it's broken, and whoever once lived here is now long gone. Remains of welded metal - now rusty, but still waking fear in anyone who dares to come closer beneath the cover of the night - tower between high reaches of translucent lead glass, speckled with jewels and golden coins. The palace itself is a maze of ruins and broken objects, looking foreign and distant to the dragons who sometimes pass by overhead. Anyone considers the palace long abandoned.

despite all we have tried until now, we still cannot find a cure.

the illness is within all of us, resting just underneath our hearts, ready to devour our minds whenever we lose our grasp on it. we cannot say where it came from, although i am still suspecting the ancient arcane energies radiating from the crystalline ruins we live in and always lived in. the crystal palace is home, and we cannot and will not abandon it. but maybe, just maybe, it has also always been our downfall.

the illness doesn't have a breakout, doesn't work like an infection and - most of all - doesn't kill, but it makes us all weak and tired. i stare into its face every day when seeing my own children, when i look into the eyes of my son. although he puts up a brave face i can see his suffering, his pain, his loneliness. maybe that's the worst, the loneliness. no children have been born to the clan in... what? years? decades? we're losing count of time. caeli, my oldest, closest friend and lifemate, the keeper of the nesting grounds, has grown restless and weary long ago, and even our clan leader - our daughter, our child - begins to lose hope. if not for the outsiders that come into the clan through the ceaseless searches of the seekers, we'd long be in decline. i don't know how long we can keep going like this. i hope the spectral child calling himself raphael will help us find a cure, like he promised us many moons ago.

i hope we can keep going.

this cannot be the end. there's too much we still have to do. the synths, the order of the sun, we cannot just let them go wild without surveillance.
