Unsuspected Welcome

The pounding rain, howling wind, or the sloshing of your steps as you run. Rushing into the mouth of the cave, the frigid chill you gained from being soaked eases away as the storm rages on outside. Letting yourself fall to lean against the cave wall, you stare out into the forest outside.

The only other sound is faint voices coming from deeper within the cave. Your curiosity being caught, you head deeper into the cave. The damp cave walls slowly give way to a more open space, and the voices becoming louder. Emerging from the cave and stepping onto a hidden rocky shoreline.

The gentle lapping of waves against the rocky coast. Before you stands a ship, its wooden hull gleaming and soaked in the soft light of a crescent moon. The ship is moored to a weathered wooden dock that stretches out into the raging sea. The smell of saltwater fills the air, and the distant booms of thunder.

As you get closer, a stern voice stops you dead in your tracks. "Welcome."

The voice emanates from a figure standing near the ship, bathed in the moon's ethereal glow. The figure, dressed in attire of a pirate, smiles warmly and gestures toward the ladder.
