If you travel far enough, to where the Starfall Isles give way to the sea, you just might find yourself in the right place. The wind howls and the rain pelts the rocky ground like rocks. The waves crash violently against the cliffs, and send up a flurry of spray that drenches your tattered clothes. Near you, just in the corner of your eye, is a cliffside, hidden in shadow. Carved into that cliffside is the opening to a cave, so draped in ivy that it is nearly invisible. Now, if you happen to spot the entrance to that cave, and think it a safe place to seek refuge from the harsh winds and rough seas, you might just wander inside. You'll cautiously part the curtain of ivy and find yourself touched by the light of a low-burning fire. There is a figure, silhouetted by the light, lying on a rug next to the fireplace. The figure is so dark and grey and stone-like, and so unfathomably large, that you at first mistake it for part of the cave itself. But just as you turn to leave, the figure at the foot of the fire opens her piercing green eyes.
"Hark, traveler. What brings you to my lair?" she asks in a rough, raspy voice.
It is a female guardian, so enormous that she towers over you like a mountain, and so old that she might have been carved from stone.
"Well, you're here, so you might as well come sit by the fire." She beckons you over to the chair beside her, and lays her mighty head down on the rug once more. "Best not to go outside in that foul storm."
You can hear the rain pounding on the roof of the cave, and the wind howling beyond the threshold. You warily step towards the fireplace, cautiously eyeing the old Guardian's monstrous claws.
"Don't worry, I won't bite," the ancient creature replies, with a playful twinkle in her wise eyes.
You walk closer and sit yourself in the tattered chair. The fire is bright and crackling and it dries your drenched clothes. You sink into the cushions and rest your eyes, letting the fire warm your freezing body.
"Now, traveler. Let me tell you a story." The old guardian sighs. "Of a mighty clan of dragons who lived here a long, long time ago...
