The Tangled Wood has always been a mystery to the dragons who don’t live within it. Darkness and shadow are constant, as are the eerie giggles that seem to creep around without a body of their own. Fear often runs rampant through a dragon’s heart when they enter and those who do choose to venture into the dark woods quickly leave. However, if one chooses to brave the shadows that seem to move of their own accord, the mist that curls around one's talons, the eerie laughter that echoes in the trees, one might find a clan of dragons like no other. They are dragons who have been abandoned, dragons who wander wherever their feet take them, stranded in an area they do not feel is home, and yet they have each found their way to the Clan of the Lost. But heed this warning: entering the borders of this clan does not ensure that you will ever leave. There is something in the air that often keeps dragons on the clan, something in the air that makes it hard for them to want to leave.

Though the clan is large now, it did not start out that way. The founders consist of three dragons, three dragons who felt they had no place to call home, three dragons who had nowhere else to go, three dragons who were drawn together by fate.

The clan’s matriarch and leader is a beautiful imperial by the name of Mordeyrin. She has vowed to protect any dragon that enters her territory but if any of those dragons are threatened, she does not hesitate to end the threat as soon as she can. As with so many other dragons in her clan, Mordeyrin holds a shadowed past behind the black mask on her face. There is a light that dances in her sometimes at night, a light that seems to both beckon and push away at the same time, a light that tells a story of pain and loss. But not everything that has happened to this dragon was filled with sorrow and hurt. In fact, the second founder of this clan was able to bring her happiness.

Rylen holds two important roles in the Clan of the Lost. First and foremost he is Mordeyrin’s mate and second is his duty as the head scout. His loyalties will forever stay with his mate and he sticks with her decisions, whatever they may be. His clan duties require for him to be absent from his mate’s side as he scouts out safe areas for his clan mates to call home until something causes them to move again. Often silent and preferring to stay in the shadows, there is no role that better fits this fierce imperial. He does not shy away from trouble, nor does he go searching for it.

In most every clan there is a dragon who searches for more members to join the clan. This role is held by Onasi. With her knowledge of language and culture of other dragons, the role fit her like a glove and she accepted it graciously. She searches diligently throughout the Tangled Wood for dragons who are alone and need a home. They are not always eager to go with her but she is persistent and they eventually agree. Unlike her fellow founders, Onasi’s history is no secret. She’s had two mates and lost both of them. The hatchlings that she gave birth to have left her and she is alone. After creating the Clan of the Lost, she searched for random dragons but it soon became a search for a mate. High and low, in light and darkness, the imperial searched for her other half. Those missing pieces were found in a dragon by the name of Zenophon. With the joy that a mate brought her, Onasi resumed her search for dragons that would join her clan.

For years the clan ran smoothly and without a hitch. The dragons got along well enough, wtih only the occasional squabble over a misunderstanding. From the outside the can looked stable and well put together, but once you entered and begin to live with the clan, it was easy to see that not everything is as it once was. An imperial by the name of Widow believed that she could do better, that what the current can leaders were doing wasn’t in the best interest of the clan. Her thoughts weren’t in the best interest for the clan either, but the few followers she gained didn’t need to know that. She amassed a small group of dragons who would follow and listen to her and before long she’d declared herself the Bone Queen, her mate Camael at her side as her most trusted soldier. He did anything that she requested no matter how dangerous or bloody the task might turn out to be.

Under normal circumstances this wouldn’t worry Mordeyrin and her two friends, but Widow was a sick dragon. Whether it was her being born a plague dragon or not, her thoughts were tainted with thoughts of violence and anger and the pleasure of causing pain. It was obvious by the bloodied bandages that Widow wore and her permanently blood stained wings that she reveled in the pain of other dragons. However nothing could be done about her. They couldn’t kick her out of the clan for fear of a revolt due to the specific dragons that had made the mistake of following her but they couldn’t allow her to rise to power and take over. It would bring mass hysteria to the clan and endanger them all. And so the three dragons began to plot against her in secret, hoping that they would be able to find some way to bring down the plagueling, her mate, and the followers she’d somehow gathered.

Hopefully they would be successful but only time would tell...
