the heart of the clan grounds. It has a mottled collection of leaves that are, at various points in the year, every color of the rainbow. Bright cherry-blossom pink in the Spring, green and pale yellow in the Summer, orange, brown, and red in the Fall, and cool shades of blue, purple, and gray in the Winter. Mushrooms, vines, and native flowers grow along the tree's trunk and branches and multiple ecosystems are present in the various nooks and crannies. Amphibians dwell in the hallows and knots and insects stay burrowed along the grooves of the trunk or camouflage themselves in the leaves. There are numerous species that live their entire lives among the Heart Tree's branches, not once venturing to the forest floor.

Visitors tend to extend their stay longer than planned, and sometimes end up becoming permanent residents. Maybe there's something sinister about the Heart Tree's luring effects, but no harm has yet come to any of Roots' Reaches residents, and rumor has it that, after such a long time with no dragons living among it, the tree has just been waiting for something to protect.
