On the Great Move

The sixty-strong gathering of dragons was at a dull roar of chatter. Rosdor sat, up on a dais out front of the lair, and the eleven ambassadors sat behind her. Ten of them sat in two equal rows... and at the forefront sat Topaz. Shi-Long was standing off to the far side, a small, pink Skydancer hatchling nestled between his front feet, looking around distractedly.

"Quiet, please," Rosdor called over the noise of the crowd. The talk subsided almost instantly. "You are all called here in assembly for important news. Will the following dragons please step forward: Advent, Basir, Reese, Magma, and Flurry." The five called dragons separated out, finding their way through the crowd to come to the front.

"Now," Rosdor continued, "the matter at hand. For reasons I will explain in a moment, know this: The reason for calling you all here is that we are moving to the Sunbeam Ruins." She paused, knowing the chatter would rise again. When it lasted more than a few seconds, she called again for quiet, "Settle down. Your questions will be answered.

"Now. Basir—" the Pearlcatcher straightened, "fly ahead to The Hewn City and meet there two dragons: an all-Midnight Imperial and an all-White Guardian. There are financial matters there concerning our home there you will attend to. Take Reese with you— he is to oversee the construction aspect of the move.

"Magma, Flurry, you two are to protect us as we caravan across Sornieth to the Sunbeam Ruins. Prepare yourselves.

"You, Advent, are to organise this entire endeavour. Keep tabs on everybody; make sure nothing and nobody is left behind.

"The rest of you, pack. I have commissioned Filigree for carts to put your work tools and possessions in. Medium dragons are to carry their own things. Sherava, Whisper, and Rare, as Fae, you are to put your things in with an Imperial or Guardian's belongings and have them pull it.

"And... for the matter of why." Rosdor turned her head to the hatchling waiting under Shi-Long and nodded her head. The hatchling waddled forward, plunking itself down to sit next to Rosdor. "This is a child of D'or and D'argent... and Shi-Long has informed me that she is touched by the Arcanist himself. It is for this reason that I name her Heir Apparent to the rule of this clan. It is also why we are leaving. She... has foreseen something, a portent of dark times... but only should we stay here. Travesty will hit the Starfall Isles. The Arcanist himself blessed this child to tell us so! Therefore, we pilgrimage across this land to the place this child's Guardian lives... far from here, should the disaster prove more widespread than we fear."

A dead silence fell over the crowd. "Let it be known," Rosdor continued, quietly, "that this changes nothing but our location. My faith is still with the Arcanist, now more so than ever. Go, everyone. Prepare for our journey."

Eventually, every dragon in the crowd wandered back into the lair. Rosdor turned to her ambassadors as the hatchling was lead off by Shi-Long. She looked up at Topaz, gaze even, "You are... certain?"

"Yes! Indubitably, yes!" Topaz nodded enthusiastically, crown wobbling dangerously, "I've spoken with the two dragons setting us up, and I've cleared us with the Lightweaver herself! We need only get through the Scarred Wasteland and the Tangled Wood, but if we hug close to the Sea of a Thousand Currents we should be fine to travel!"

Rosdor closed her eyes, nodded once, and waved a hand to dismiss them all. Once everyone else had gone, she flopped down onto the cold stone of the dais, and her King Parda padded up. He licked her face with his barbed tongue and Rosdor absent-mindedly bumped foreheads with it. "I'm going to miss the Starfall Isles though," she whispered to it. The King Parda just purred in response.

just took a skim through your lair--i'm impressed with how much lore and writing has gone into it! as a fellow writer, but busy with Life[tm] to actually sit down and do something for myself [like fill out the lore of my lair] i wanted to compliment you!
